There are two types of sales: publicity stunts with barely-worth-bothering discounts, and real-deal clearances that are definitely worth a visit. Making sure you only go to the latter saves a lot of time and effort.
Here’s the sales I’ll be visiting this week:

Best Sydney sale: Tigerlily
What: Tigerlily do great women’s swimsuits and casual separates. Their clothes are especially great for girls with curves. I recently bought one of their skirts on ebay and love it!
Where: Unit 101/level 1, 267 Cleveland St., Surry Hills.
When: Friday 19th Jan. (10am-6pm), Saturday 20th (10am-4pm), Sunday 21st (11am-3pm)
Why: This has all the hallmarks of a real-deal sample sale, so expect to find steep discounts, one-off sample garments (but only in ridiculously tiny sizes) and possibly the accessories from their catwalk shows too.

Best Melbourne sale: Sambag
What: Sambag do lovely ladies’ bags, shoes and cashmere pieces. I bought a gorgeous purple suede bag from them years ago and carried it every day until it fell apart… over three years later!
Where: 489 High St, Prahran East
(Also in Sydney at Strand Arcade and 181c Edgecliff Rd, Woolahra)
When: Now
Why: Their stuff is gorgeous, fantastic quality and I rarely see it marked down.

Best Australia-wide sale: Myer quitstock
What: Myer department stores, getting rid of ‘last season’ (i.e. summer) stock to make way for all that winter stuff they truck in each February. Men’s, women’s, children’s, clothes, shoes, homewares, electronics… pretty much something for everyone.
Where: Myer stores all over Australia
When: Now
Why: They’ve just taken an additional 30% off already-reduced merchandise. Towards the end of the month, when they really want to get rid of the discount racks, expect to see 75% off already-reduced prices.
(True, it’s slim pickings by then… but anything great you do find will be an absolute steal!)
Best Online sale: Girlshop ‘Me Spree’ sale
What: Girlshop have gorgeous girly items from emerging designers.
Where: Online; they ship to the U.S. only.
When: Until Friday
Why: They’ll give you 20% off everything, including already-reduced items, if you use the code ‘MeSpree07′ when you checkout. That means great deals on some really unique items.
