How to highlight your unusual features
Everyone has features that make them different, unusual and special.
If you’ve read a lot of magazines, you might consider these attributes to be ‘flaws’: you’re too tall, too short, too thin, too fat, flat-chested, top-heavy, pear shaped or whatever else.
Yesterday, I talked about why your unusual features aren’t flaws at all.
Today, some practical tips for embracing, rather than hiding, the things that make you special.
How to accentuate tallness
- Wear high stilettos or platforms to add another few inches to your height
- Wear a single colour top-to-toe, so you have a 6′ tall column of fabric covering you
- To be really ‘larger than life’, add big hair to the mix to add another couple of inches
- Date someone short but secure and cuddle them under your arm
How to accentuate petiteness
- Wear flats
- Wear delicate, feminine clothes to play up your girlish looks
- Add one huge accessory that dwarfs you (e.g. a big bag, chunky shoes or huge statement jewellery)
- Stand next to very tall people who tower over you
How to accentuate boyish thinness
- Be a tomboy and dress in a playfully boyish fashion
- Wear your clothes a little large, so their looseness disguises any curves
- Add one ultra-feminine item (killer heels, a silky cami) if you’re worried about looking like a drag king
How to accentuate curves
- Wear tight, form-fitting clothes that hug your figure
- Choose undergarments that hoist up your boobs and cinch in your waist
- Favor dresses instead of pants to keep the look really femme fatale
- Wear bright colors to further draw attention to your curves if you’re confident enough to pull it off
- Be nice — if you’ve got killer curves, you’re automatically a threat to every woman in the room
How to accentuate big boobs
- Wear a top that’s either tight or low-cut (both can be a bit much)
- Wear your oomphiest bra every day, so you always have maximum cleavage
- Add a necklace that dangles between your boobs
- Wear a bright, eye-catching colour on top when you’re feeling daring
How to accentuate a flat chest
- Go braless
- Wear a tight t-shirt
- Wear thin fabrics on top when you’re feeling extra-confident
- Show off your headlights with pride!
How to accentuate ‘booty’
- Wear form-fitting pants and jeans
- To really play up the size of your butt, choose skinny-leg styles that are tight around the ankle
- Choose bright colours that say ‘look at me’
You don’t have to follow my instructions exactly, but next time you read an article about disguising the physical attributes that make you different to someone else’s ideals, think about whether you might be better off emphasising what makes you unique instead.

ROFL!
Of course I agree with the idea of embracing individual uniqueness … and of being nice if your appearance happens to be threatening.
Well done!
Outstanding post! Very cool ideas.
Thanks Rebecca! Thanks Icy!
I actually advocate being nice all the time (well, unless someone else’s behaviour necessitates you being a bit tougher), but it’s especially important when you can work that femme fatale look well. When men are putty in your hands, you’d better be nice to their wives!
;)
You’re a bad, bad girl - but only in the nicest of ways ^_^
I would be a bad girl if I could work the femme fatale look — such fun! Alas, it just doesn’t seem to work on me. Darnit!
how do you accentuate big, sticking out ears?
Easy: wear your hair closely cropped, or keep it tucked behind your ears.
Add some dangly earrings and the whole world will know you’re comfortable with your so-called ‘imperfection’
I love this post — especially because it was posted on my birthday this year, back when I was tinkering with the CSS on what would become my first blog : )
I’m both tall and curvy and I love accentuating both. I used to hate being tall and curvy, but I’ve since come to my senses.
Ditto.. :) I accentuate the flatchestedness with pride ;)
O.k., I admit, I’m still jealous of the flat-chested gals ; )
