Tip: makeup wipes keep shoes sparkling

By Sara The Bargain Queen 25 July 2007 2 Comments

sparkling clean shoeHave you ever bought a pack of makeup wipes that were terrible for your skin?

Don’t throw them out; they’re great for keeping your shoes fresh and clean. Here’s how.

Some shoes look best without stockings or socks — for example, cute ballet flats. The problem is, shoes that are worn on bare feet can get pretty gross. Sweaty foot gunk collects inside them, slowly building up over multiple wears. Ew!

The solution? Give them an occasional wipe out. Makeup wipes are perfect for this, but aren’t a cheap option… unless you already have some lying around that you don’t want to use on your skin.

I’ve tried almost every kind of makeup wipe on the market and had a few packs that weren’t great. They’re now sitting in the cupboard next to my shoes, ready to keep them nice and fresh.

Alternatively, if you don’t have any spare makeup wipes, there are very cheap packs available in most dollar stores or baby wipes do the job just as well (and are much cheaper then special shoe wipes).

That’s a good idea, I personally don’t like make up wipes either, but bought some for a plane ride once. I’ll use them for my shoes now.

How timely, I just received a pair of slip on Keds that I can’t wear socks with, and was wondering what to do about the yuckiness. Thanks!
