Cheap gift ideas: Happier hands
As part of my strategy to focus on small gifts to make Christmas shopping easier and cheaper, I’m compiling the ultimate lists of gifts for under $20.
I’ve already shown you how to treat their feet for cheap, but now it’s the hands’ and nails’ turn. Here are some gift ideas for pampering their paws. Why not provide the fixings for an at-home manicure — and a pair of fur-lined gloves so they can keep their hands toasty?
Everything’s under $20 and they ship worldwide!
Help for dry hands
If you’ve been reading lately, you know that I love Burt’s Bees all natural products. That’s why I’m happy to recommend their hand repair kit. It comes with lemon butter cuticle creme, beeswax and banana hand creme, shea butter hand repair creme, and a pair of cotton gloves for overnight treatment — all for just $11.99! Or for just $19.38, you can get both the hand repair kit and the foot care kit.
Paraffin wax baths are also great for the hands, but unfortunately they’re a bit above our $20 price limit. If you know someone who uses one though, consider getting them a refill like this peach-scented paraffin wax block ($4.95).
The perfect at-home manicure
A good manicure starts with a soak to soften up the cuticles, that’s why I suggest this Hot Spa nail bubbles spa ($19.99).
Manicure sets are an easy choice. After all, tweezers and nail clippers are the sort of things that you want multiples of around. For the gals, get this cute, 6-piece manicure set in a pink purse case — for just $5.95.
There is one piece, though, that I would replace. Once you get a crystal nail file, you’ll never go back to metal or cardboard versions. They create an incredibly smooth edge, don’t wear out, and are easily sterilized. This Essie crystal file is $11.10.
Wants the nails are cleaned up, it’s time to polish. O.P.I. has some lovely color choices from subtle, girlie Coney Island Cotton Candy to the sultry An Affair in Red Square. The most popular color this season? It’s the dark purple Lincoln Park After Dark! Another surprising favorite among fashionistas was the very trendy Russian Navy. Obviously, picking nail colors for others can be tricky, so use your best judgement.
Whatever color you choose, mistakes happen. That why this Essie manicure corrector pen ($11.95) makes a great stocking stuffer.
Warm hands
Could your loved one’s hands freeze hot chocolate? If so, they’re probably miserable this time of year — unless you’re one of our friends from down under.
These warming mittens ($11.99) from The Happy Company are microwaveable! They’re made of micro-fleece and have grain-filled finger warming inserts to hold in heat. What a neat idea!
Should you need something with more power, Xtreme makes flameless, metal hand warmers in two sizes: large ($15) and junior ($14). They take Zippo lighter fuel and work for 12 hours on each filling — perfect for anyone who spends a lot of time outside in the cold.
Don’t forget those lovely leather gloves with rabbit fur trim that we mentioned a few months ago! They’re still available for just $7.95 and they will also keep your loved one’s hands nice and toasty.
Fortunately, with so many great online bargains, there are now fewer reasons to go out in the cold. Remember, keep reading The Bargain Queens for more gifts under $20. Happy shopping!
