I recently went shopping for makeup brush holders and was shocked by the overpriced plastic holders being sold. Twenty-five dollars for a piece of clear plastic with a few holes in it? They have to be kidding!
I only use about a half dozen or so makeup brushes, and I knew there had to be a better solution. There was, and it was staring me in the face all along — toothbrush holders!
They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. You can get them super cheap, or spend a little more to get one that matches your decor.
This blue ceramic brush holder has plenty of room, ships worldwide, and is just $5.97. The company also sells matching accessories as well as holders in a variety of other colors.
This travertine marble brush holder is still only $19.97, and it ships worldwide. While it only has three holes, many brushes are slim enough that you can put more than one in each slot.
Of course, the choices are endless!

One of my major expenses last year was building a collection of beauty products like makeup, makeup brushes, and skincare. I don’t regret it; I love the makeup I have and my skin now looks a lot better naked, but I really can’t afford to spend as much this year.
Therefore, I’ve been thinking about how to cut down on beauty-related expenses with these simple ideas.

If you use makeup wipes to clean makeup from your skin each night, here’s something you need to know: baby wipes are basically the same thing, and cost a lot less money.
I started wondering about them when I noticed that the baby wipes my sister-in-law uses on her adorable sons

Looking for a way to organize your makeup that’s portable and easy to use? Make a makeup binder by filling a large binder with zippered pencil pouches like these. You can fill the pouches with most types of makeup and even your include your makeup brushes.
Organize your makeup by type or by look. For example, you could keep eye shadows together, or keep eye shadows with complementary blushes and lipsticks. Because pouches can be added easily, you can expand your binder as your makeup collection grows. And to take your makeup with you for the day, just throw the pouch you need into your tote.

When time’s limited, you might do your makeup in the car, in a restroom, at your desk, on the subway…
That’s why a Hard Candy mix tape makeup palette is a fantastic gift: it’s adorable, fits in your purse and contains enough makeup to make you look great, no matter how hurriedly you left the house.
Our pick: ‘Workout Mix‘, shown above. It has 3 classic brown eyeshadow shades, 2 red lip glosses and a glitter gloss for extra shine. (Also available: ‘Break Up Mix‘ and ‘Party Mix‘.)
Tip: In a pinch, lip gloss = blush. Rub a little on your fingers, dab it on your cheeks, then blend with your fingertips.
It’s just $15; ships to U.S. only.

PS: If you’re buying for a wannabe Paris Hilton, visit Fashion Tribes for “socialite” mascara. It’s gold plated, crystal encrusted and sure to blind your least-favorite paparazzo!

A special tip for our Canadian readers:
The exchange rate recently tipped in your favour, so your money goes further when you’re buying American products.
That means hopping the border can get you some great deals — especially since U.S. stores are trying to lure Canadians:

“Some of the prices that are showing up in the malls close to the border in the U.S., […] are lower there than they would be for example in Chicago, in New York, in any large city.”
Source: Ottawa Business Journal
If you’re too far from the border to drive across, you can still get a great deal from one of the many U.S. shopping sites that ship to Canada — like Amazon, Apple Bottoms, Baby Phat, BuyBeauty, dELiA*s, figleaves, ICE.com, Shoebuy, shopbop and UncommonGoods.
Happy shopping, Canadians!
